Ritual Botanicals was born out of an intense passion for botanical ingredients and their often near-magical properties. All of the product formulas are intentional and cohesive, with every ingredient incorporated having a specific benefit for the skin.
It is my opinion that skin isn’t a problem to be solved, but a powerful self-healer that simply needs the right tools, environment, and support to thrive.
My goal isn’t to try to turn your skin into some unattainable ideal of what a complexion should look like, but to help you celebrate your skin and it's uniqueness through the simple act of caring for and nourishing it.
Ritual is designed to be enjoyed leisurely. Besides creating fresh, natural, clean products brimming with biodynamic effectiveness, we aim to support the creation of simple rituals to help connect your outer self with your inner self.
This is elevated skincare as an avenue for elevated self-care.
I believe that by taking the time to step into slow beauty practices, we can become more present in our bodies and connected to ourselves. When done with intention, something as simple as washing your face can be an active meditation.
Ritual is rooted in inclusivity. As a womxn of colour, diversity and representation is very important to me--especially when it comes to health, wellness, and self-care. It’s vital we help support and engage people of colour in self-care, while also recognizing challenges relating to higher melanin that are not universally addressed in the skin care industry.
I believe that your skin care ritual can be a simple, daily opportunity for self-connection. My desire is that Ritual provides a simple and accessible way for you to come home to yourself and nourish your skin with potent, plant-based ingredients. In the words of Audre Lorde:
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”
We are committed to:
Skin Sensitive Formulas
Although many of Ritual's products contain small amounts of essential oils instead of synthetic fragrances, I recognize that sometimes even essential oils can be too much for your skin. Whether you're sensitive to EO's, are a pregnant or breastfeeding mama, or just don't like scented products, every Ritual product has the option of being essential oil-free (just choose "Unscented" in the drop down menu)!
I also recognize that it can sometimes be a bit scary to put oil on your face due to conditioning many of us have received that oil will clog our pores and make us breakout. Although in practice using more oils in your skincare regime will often actually decrease overproduction of oils, its important to use oils that work for your skin. To help make sure nothing clogs your pores, every oil used in Ritual's facial skin products is non- or low comedogenic, meaning it rates a 2 or lower on the comedogenic scale.
Zero Synthetic Ingredients
All Ritual products are formulated without:
Pthalates, parabens, DEA/TEA/MEA, isopropyl alcohol, formaldehyde, mineral oil, PEG’s, propylene glycols, sulfates, triclosan, talc, or petroleum-based ingredients.
When preservation is necessary for water-based products, I choose to use non-toxic , paraben-free methods, all of which also have their own benefits for the skin, and are rated 1 on the Environment Working Group (EWG) list.
Ritual uses organic or wildcrafted ingredients whenever possible, and all waxes, butters and oils are GMO free and are unrefined or minimally refined, dependant on the requirements of the formula.
High Vibrational Products
It's important to me that along with being safe and effective, the products I create also have good vibes! After being packaged and before sending them to your home, I infuse every Ritual product with Reiki (Japanese for "universal life energy") to help raise it's vibration and maximize the healing and nourishing benefits for your skin. It's the type of woo-woo you that'll make you woo-hoo!
Cruelty Free
Every product is tested on willing family, and friends, never on animals. No animal-based ingredients are used, although Ritual does use bee byproducts, sourced locally from intentional and sustainable bee-keepers.
I want to acknowledge that Ritual products are created on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded Indigenous territories of the ʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations. As a guest in this beautiful land, I am thankful and consider it a privilege to be able to live and work here.
